Course Bookings Terms & Conditions
Bookings and Payments
- Bookings may be made by email, letter or telephone. By booking a course or activity you acknowledge and accept the following terms and conditions.
- Payment in full is due at the time of booking for all open course bookings.
- Private courses will be invoiced for the course fee on confirmation of booking. This fee will be due in order to secure the booking.
- Registration and certification fees for private courses will be invoiced for separately following completion of the course. This payment will fall due on the date invoiced.
- Payments can be made by cash, cheque or bank transfer (BACS).
Cancellations
By Borderlands First Aid
- Borderlands First Aid will only ever cancel courses in exceptional circumstances. In the event of a cancellation by Borderlands First Aid a place will be offered on a subsequent course, but if this does not meet the clients’ needs, a full refund will be provided within 5 working days. In the event of any cancellation, Borderlands First Aid will not be liable for any out of pocket expenses incurred, other than course fees paid to us. This includes, but is not limited to, travel and accommodation costs. We would therefore advise you to consider whether you need your own trip insurance if you will be incurring other expenses in order to attend your course.
By the client
- Courses booked by email or telephone can be cancelled within 14 days of the booking, in accordance with the distance selling regulations. Cancellation must be made in writing or by email. In the event of cancellation within 14 days of such a booking, Borderlands First Aid will fully reimburse any money paid. This clause shall not apply in the case of late bookings where the course has already taken place.
- If cancellation is made after this period has elapsed, Borderlands First Aid reserves the right to charge the following cancellation fees:
Notice Fees
More than 30 days prior to course No fee. Full refund given
7-30 days prior to course 50% of course fee payable
Less than 7 days prior to course 100% of course fee payable
The client may transfer to another Borderlands First Aid course as an alternative to forfeiting part of the course fee. Course transfers between 8-14 days prior to the course will incur a £30 administration fee. We are unable to offer this in the event of rescheduling at 7 or fewer day’s notice due to the difficulty in filling course places at this notice.
Conduct of courses
- Borderlands first aid trainer / assessors are contracted to provide regulated first aid qualification courses. We will ensure that our trainers are current and appropriately qualified for the course that they are delivering.
- Regulated qualification courses have specific minimum guided learning hours (contact time) required. This time depends on the course booked: 6 guided learning hours for emergency first aid at work and emergency paediatric first aid, 7 guided learning hours for emergency first aid for schools and colleges, 8 guided learning hours for outdoor first aid emergency action and emergency first aid at work +F, 12 guided learning hours for paediatric first aid, 14 guided learning hours for first aid for schools and colleges, 16 guided learning hours for Outdoor First Aid and Forest School First Aid and 18 guided learning hours for first aid at work. Guided learning hours do not include break times on courses and must be fully adhered to. When booking a private course, we will need use of the training venue from 1 hour before scheduled course start time in order to set up, and for up to 1 hour after the end time in order to pack away.
- Learners must be physically present for the full duration of the course and pass all assessments in order to achieve the qualification they are registered for. If learners arrive late or the venue is not available for the required timings (including set up time) then we will be unable to complete the qualification for those learners. A certificate of attendance may be issued in these circumstances, but this should not be relied on as evidence of first aid competence for regulatory purposes.
- It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that the venue is suitable for use and available in line with the timings above. It is also the responsibility of the client to ensure that learners are aware of the timings and need to be physically present throughout the course. In the event that we are unable to complete the required timings due to availability of the venue organised by the client or learners not being present throughout, the full course fee remains payable by the client. In the event that the training venue is not available at the times agreed with the client, we reserve the right to cancel the course, with payment in full still being required.
- We expect our trainers to be treated with respect during courses, which includes adhering strictly to break times, not speaking over the trainer during training sessions and not attempting to undermine them in the information and training they provide. In the event of learners being persistently disruptive during a course, we retain the right to ask them to leave the course, with no refund of any applicable course fees being due.
Course Certificates
Our regulated first aid course certificates are externally awarded, so certificates are issued following the completion of the course. You should expect to receive your certificate within 3 weeks of the course, so please contact us if this has not happened. We regret that we cannot be held responsible for missing certificates reported to us more than 2 months after the end of the course. We will assist you in applying for replacements after this time but any replacement certificate fees will be your responsibility. E-certificates are issued to successful candidates as standard. Paper certificates can be requested for an additional fee but we must be notified of this prior to the course.
Contact Information
Borderlands retains contact details of individuals who have completed and returned course booking forms to us. The details are used for course administration purposes. Occasional email newsletters are sent to clients who have opted in to receive these.
Reminder emails are sent to individual clients when their qualification is close to expiry.
