First Aid at Work Refresher
Basics of First Aid for School and College Staff
First aid provision for schools and colleges can be complicated by needing to cover both first aid for adults and children. Rather than completing 2 separate qualifications, we’re able to offer this 14 hour (plus breaks) course, which includes first aid emergencies to both students and staff.
Practical, Hands-on Training
We believe that first aid is a practical subject, best taught practically. That’s why our training courses include plenty of hands-on training in first aid techniques and procedures. We only use presentations to reinforce the theory behind each area of first aid, rather than as the main way of delivering our training.
Course Content
Topics covered on the course include:
The 2 day ITC L3 Award in First Aid for Schools and Colleges is aimed at staff in education settings who may be responsible for providing temporary care to either a child or an adult. The course covers a wide range of injury and illness related issues relevant to both children and adults. The decision as to whether this qualification is the right one for your staff group should be based on your first aid needs assessment.
If you also require the L3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, we are able to run this course concurrently, meaning that successful candidates can achieve both qualifications together. Likewise, we can also provide training and assessment for the L3 Award in Paediatric First Aid alongside this qualification, but this will require a longer course, due to the additional course content relating to infants (under 1 year old).
If you need a less in depth course for some staff, consider our 1 day ITC L3 Award in Emergency First Aid for Schools and Colleges. We can also run the 2 courses together, with some staff attending for day 1 and others for the full qualification.
If you’d like a private course for your group we can travel to you anywhere in the country so just get in touch.
Successful completion of our First Aid for Schools and Colleges course leads to a regulated qualification certificate, awarded by ITC First. The exams regulator for England (OFQUAL) has oversight of this qualification. By opting for a regulated qualification, you can be assured that your trainer is up to date and qualified to deliver this course.
This course requires participants to undertake some degree of manual handling and physical exertion, including moving simulated candidates on the floor and performing simulated chest compressions on a manikin.
If you think that you may have a condition, which may pose a problem or may prevent you from taking a full and active part on the course, we may be able to make a reasonable adjustment. Please see ITC First’s Access to Qualifications Information If you would like to request a reasonable adjustment please let us know in advance of the course.
You are advised that by registering on an ITC First qualification you are protected by Borderlands First Aid’s Policies, which are available on request, as well as ITC First’s set of policies including Complaints Policy and Appeals Policy.
Please be aware that we will discuss some real-life incidents in detail and may view some slides and video of serious medical and traumatic incidents. If this is likely to cause you distress, please discuss this with your trainer in confidence prior to the course beginning so that we can make any necessary adjustments.
